Resurgent Medvedev Wins Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's first championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since that period of that year.

Success also signifies he has secured 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

His retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, took control to force a third set.

He saved 4 early chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
